Welcome, O Great Blog-Checker-Outer.
I’m glad you’re here.

Much as I love them, my life is not all cameras, cameras, cameras. Once in a while I do get out from behind the lens to do other things. And this is where I report back. Usually with a photo. So technically, I guess I’m not entirely out from behind the lens. But that said, I’ll try not to bore you with chat about f-stops and the beauty of natural light. Though I must say, natural light is a wondrous thing.

They say photographers tend to be observers. And it’s true. Observe, I do. So this is my place to share deep thoughts that—come to think of it—aren’t actually all that deep. Or thoughtful. Ok, maybe they’re not deep thoughts at all. They’re quippy-er. More like captions. You know, to go with the photos. And if pictures really do have that thousand-word thing going for them, there’s not much more to be said.

Peruse. Enjoy. Feel free to comment.

nicole + jason – married august 29th, 2009

nicole & jason had a fantastic wedding and reception at nicollet island pavilion, downtown minneapolis. i always chuckle a little when i think about how i met nicole and jason. nicole had emailed me, half interested in having me photograph her wedding and half interested in finding out where a former bride got her dress because she had to have it! :) well, despite my efforts, i wasn’t able to find out where exactly one of my brides found her dress, but shortly after that nicole found it anyway! what luck! needless to say, both nicole and my first bride who wore that same dress, both looked stunning in it.

nicole and jason had a very fun and laid back wedding. one thing that was very unique was their wedding dance entertainment. instead of a DJ or a band, they hired a couple guys who perform as dueling pianos! and let me tell you, they were fantastic! i had never seen that done before at a wedding, and these guys were very very good. i definitely wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them in the future!

emily + warren – married august 22nd, 2009

emily & warren were a fantastic couple to work with. i had never met them both in person before their wedding day as all of our communication had been over email and the phone because they both currently live in washington DC. emily grew up in north dakota and decided to have their wedding just outside of pelican rapids near pelican lake in northwestern minnesota. so it was a little bit of a drive up for me, but not too bad by any means.

we were truly blessed with a fantastic day weather-wise last saturday and we definitely took advantage of it. they had their wedding ceremony at the cutest little lutheran church that seemed to be out in the middle of nowhere. it was all by itself with nothing surrounding it but fields and lakes, but just the cutest little church. and then for their reception, they had it at emily’s aunt and uncle’s lake home on pelican lake. what a beautiful setting!

kirsten + darrin – married august 8th, 2009

kirsten & darrin had their wedding last saturday at a nice little church in bloomington that i last photographed a wedding at a few years ago. its funny how sometimes you don’t realize that you’ve photographed somewhere until you get there and it all comes back.

their had their casual reception at a really cool dance studio near loring park. it had really great ambiance and of course a fantastic dance floor. what a perfect space!

smith family cabin – august 2009

i just got back from a couple days with the smith family up at a little vacation they were having at a cabin on a lake in northern wisconsin. this is basically my girlfriend’s sisters and their kids, and all together she has 6 nieces and 1 nephew. needless to say i have a lot of catching up to do with only 1 nephew myself! :) but they’re a pretty cute bunch and they even wore some tie-dye shirts that i made back when i was 18 (which believe me, was a LONG time ago!). so we had a little photo session and had some fun with it too. some of the kids are pretty darn cute and some of them are a little goofy… i’ll let you be the judge. ;)

laura + joe – married august 1st, 2009

so now the day after darcy & mike’s wedding, i was back in the twin cities to photograph laura & joe’s wedding. they had their ceremony at a lovely catholic church in eden prairie and then had their reception downtown at windows on minnesota. in between we spent a little time and had some fun with them and their wedding party downtown outside.

what a fun group! i think all of the groomsmen and the groom were former football players at the University of Wisconsin and then all of the bridesmaids and the bride were dancers, and boy did they have a good time! as a result, so did i! :)
